Magnesium is a mineral that is responsible for the correct metabolic function of over 350 enzymes in the body. Magnesium is found in leafy green vegetables, nuts, seeds, legumes and even dark chocolate. Spinach, pumpkin seeds and black beans are especially high in magnesium. However, many of us are deficient in magnesium … which might explain your chocolate cravings!

Just why do we call it a miracle mineral?

• Magnesium can help you sleep. Dr. Lipman recommends taking 1000mg before bed to help you fall and stay asleep through the night.

• Magnesium helps to balance the nervous system. Magnesium has a calming effect, which can help you relax and unwind.

• Magnesium helps to relax aching, tense muscles. Muscle soreness is a fairly common detox response when people are going through the first few days of the Cleanse program. We always recommend to drink lots of water, do gentle stretching and try taking some magnesium to help with the muscle aches, soreness or spasms.

• Magnesium can help with constipation. If you’re experiencing constipation, take 1000 mg of magnesium citrate at night, and that should get things moving by morning.

    Hi Kimba, Dr. Lipman says that most people are deficient in magnesium so it shouldn’t be a problem. We recommend paying close attention to how you’re feeling while taking it!

    Our practitioner recommends Magnesium Glycinate for me and my kids. You start at 100mg/day. Every 4 days you can increase the dose by 100mg, until their stool becomes too soft or loose. Then back off by 50 mg. She says maximum dose is 800mg/day. None of us are that high.

    I take calcium225mg/magnesium 75mg twice daily, is it too low for magnesium consumption?

    We recommend the Be Well Magnesium Glycinate supplement 2x per day, which is a total of 600mg per day. For constipation or to raise your levels more dramatically, you could double that dose.

    Magnesium oxide has been recommended to me for migraines. Do you recommend a specific amount? I believe they told me 400mg. I know it has helped many but can take 3 months to show its effects.

    We recommend taking it about 1 hour before bed but a 1/2 hour before works well too!

    Magnesium supplement and epsom salts was helps me a lot with my insomnia problem for about a month. However, since 3 days ago , my sleeping problems returns. What is the explaination for this and what is the next step to take? Thanks

    Calcium should never be higher than magnesium. Magnesium should be equal if not a little bit higher.
