I appreciate this segment which enforces Mayor Bloomberg’s latest “large soda ban” decision to a degree. My question to the Mayor would be, don’t you think, instead of worrying about the sugar the city population intakes first, you may want to start with the incredibly overweight and out-of-shape police force in the NYPD? I see NJ cops and PA cops looking fit and healthy. Then I see 9 out of 10 NYPDs that can barely squeeze into their patrol cars, let alone chase a perpetrator. Why must I always see one or two squad cars parked at a Dunkin Donuts? This concept of trying to help the NYC population is admirable, but we should think about starting with our city agencies first. In that same vain, I applaud the FDNY for the majority of their members are in wonderful shape. What is the Mayor thinking? He has made such a public spectacle of himself with this “sugar” thing, without even mentioning sanctions for his police force. You would think that there would be size and weight constraints, physical exams and such to insure proper weight and heatlh. In any event, thank you again for this article.
