  • The body’s natural production of melatonin is critical to healthy sleep. Exposure to what we consider normal levels of light in the evening and at night delay the production of melatonin by up to 3 hours and on average 1-1/2 hours in everyone leading to profound health consequences including poor sleep as the most immediately obvious one. Others include increased risk of breast cancer, cognition deficit, diabetes, obesity, immune deficiency, and serious or fatal accidents. Incandescent lighting does this. Light produced by most LEDs and CFLs is worse.
