Youssou N’Dour, I Bring What I Love

Last night I went to the premier of a new documentary I Bring What I Love. It’s a beautiful, moving documentary about the Senegalese singer Youssou N’Dour, who is one of my favorite artists.

What blew me away about the Youssou movie was that I have been a fan of his for 25-30 years, and I love his music but never could understand the lyrics.  In the movie, they translate or have the lyrics in English while he is singing and I was blown away by how powerful they are. His songs are social and political commentaries, telling Africans to be proud to be Africans.  Although he is Senegalese, he is a representative of Africa and the whole world. He is a true griot.

I highly recommend watching this movie.
