While most of us were having a break over the Christmas period, the United States Food and Drug Administration was pushing through genetically modified salmon towards the final acceptance process. Last year Congress actually blocked the frankenfish because of serious health and environmental concerns. Yet, the FDA is making a massive push to release the genetically modified salmon into the world possibly because the FDA-backed biotech giant, Aquabounty, the creator of the fish AquAdvantage Salmon will make huge profits. These frankenfish are not only probably harmful to human health but also a threat to the integrity of the food chain as they will probably be let loose into waters with other salmon and possibly the oceans as well.
