Beat Your Sugar Craving in 3 Simple Steps

For many people it creeps up around 3pm. For others it’s the long stretch between dinner and bedtime. Or maybe it happens every time you’re feeling stressed or overwhelmed.

It may start like a whisper but before long your sugar craving is screaming to be fulfilled.

You know it’s not good for you. You know it’s not going to make you feel good. You may even know that it’s likely to ruin your mood. So you do your best to “be good”.

Quick & Easy Veggie Stock

In the midst of this long, cold (and busy) winter, hearty soups have often filled in as my meal of choice. If I’m feeling fancy, I might follow a recipe but more often than not my soups are an improvisation of ingredients waiting in the fridge.

While I do save my veggie scraps to make big batches of stock (then reduce to a concentrate & save in the freezer) a winter like this tests my supply! Sometimes I find myself ready to make a nourishing soup without any stock on hand. Luckily, it’s easy to get a good, flavorful base going with just a few staples from the fridge.

From the Be Well Kitchen: Leftover Wraps

Since being pregnant with my first child last year, I’ve become increasingly committed to ensuring our family is eating healthy, fresh food. Since then I’ve become one busy mama, so efficiency is now also incredibly important. I’m a big proponent of cooking once and eating twice, but it’s also nice to have some staple fridge clean-out meals in mind, ready to deploy when your leftovers are becoming unruly.

Leftover wraps are one of my favorite solutions! The filling can be made with basically whatever’s on hand (rice, beans and veggies work great), and rolled up in cabbage, collard, kale, or any big leafy green.

Designing Resolutions for Real Change

Every January, I reflect on the year that has passed. What was accomplished and what remained undone? I consider the outcomes that I’d like to see in my life, and set out upon the New Year with a fresh set of goals and intentions.

As January approached this year I found myself talking a lot about building healthy habits, which got me to thinking about how our habits and our resolutions interact.

From the Be Well Kitchen – Tomato Shallot Dressing

The truth is, my husband is the boss of salad dressings in our home. I pick & prep the salad ingredients, and mix everything together, but somehow every time he seems to make something, magic happens with the dressing. Then he shrugs it off as though it’s nothing.

Luckily over the past decade I’ve managed to pick up a few of his tricks, and have never had to buy a bottle of processed dressing. Here’s what I’ve learned:

From the Be Well Kitchen:
Zesty Egg Salad Veggie Sliders

I’m in the south of France with my husband who’s traveling for work. As soon as we settled in to the apartment we will call home for the next week, I ran off to the store. I love exploring the aisles of groceries in other parts of the world. Immediately I noticed that most of the fresh produce was grown right here in France. Those that weren’t came from nearby Spain and Italy. How refreshing!
